Saginaw Gears (IHL)

The Saginaw Gears were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Saginaw, Michigan. Their home stadium was the Saginaw Civic Center.

History

The Saginaw Gears were established in 1972 as a franchise of the International Hockey League. After the Gears in their first season still could not reach the play -offs, the team was in the following two years each in the play-off final. The Turner Cup, the championship of the IHL, the Gears won for the first time in the 1976 / 77th After the team was after the main round with 91 points on the first place in the standings and thus the Fred A. Huber Trophy won, they later reached the play-off final, where the Gears were also victorious. The Saginaw Gears thus collected in the 1976/77 season, the Double. In addition to the main round victory, they could also win the Turner Cup.

Only in the season 1980/81 Gears were back in the play-off final, which was won with 4-0 victories against the Kalamazoo Wings. It was followed by another final appearance the following year, before the Saginaw Gears disbanded in the summer of 1983.
