Saginaw Spirit

The Saginaw Spirit are a U.S. Junior Hockey team from Saginaw, Michigan, which is currently in the Ontario Hockey League, one of the three professional leagues in the Canadian Junior Hockey League, plays.

History

The team was established in 2002 as the North Bay Centennials moved with her owner Dick Garber from the Canadian province of Ontario to Saginaw and there took up the game operating under its new name.

The roots of today's franchise in St. Catharines, Ontario, where it played from 1943 to 1976 as the Falcons, Teepees and Blackhawks. 1954 and 1960 the team won the Memorial Cup, the Canadian Junior Championship. 1976 attracted the St. Catharines Black Hawks to Niagara Falls, where she served as Flyers were on the ice until another move to North Bay.

Since the team is based in Michigan, the club has extensive advertising work operated so that both the fan base and the number of season ticket holders could be greatly increased. Today the Spirit have one of the highest viewership averages in the entire Ontario Hockey League.

In the 2005/06 season, the franchise reached for the first time as the Saginaw Spirit OHL playoffs, from which one, however, already in the first round was eliminated against the Guelph Storm.

Arena

Their home games wearing the Spirit in the 5,527 -seat Wendler Arena, which is a part of The Dow Event Center complex in Downtown Saginaw from. On 31 January 2007 also the OHL All- Star Classic was held in the arena. It was the first time that the All-Star Game of the League was held in a U.S. city. Previously, the stadium with an ice surface of 58,5 m x 26m already home to the Saginaw Gears, the Saginaw Generals, Saginaw Hawks, Saginaw Wheels and the Saginaw Lumber Kings.
