Sagum

The Sagum (probably a loan word from the Celtic ) was an ancient Roman coat type, which was made of a rectangular piece of wool fabric. The upper third of the jacket was folded over and served as additional moisture protection of the shoulders. In bad weather the jacket was pulled over his head. Was closed, the Sagum with a clasp on the right shoulder. Was added as a storage place on the floor or used as a blanket.

The Sagum was driven mainly by Roman soldiers. It could literally stand for the military quintessential sagum sumere (literally: " the Sagum attract" ) meant " go to war ". But the lictors carried the Sagum when he accompanied the officers in the province.
