Sai Yok National Park

Sai Yok National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ไทรโยค ) is a national park in Kanchanaburi province in central Thailand.

History

King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) visited this area many times and enjoyed her secluded and peaceful spot. Sai Yok National Park was established on 27 October 1980 and was then the eleventh national park in the country.

Sai Yok National Park is located on the Burmese- Thai border in the districts ( Amphoe ) Thong Pha Phum and Sai Yok, the park administration is located 98 kilometers from Kanchanaburi. The park is about 500 km ².

Topography

The terrain of the national park Sai Yok is hilly to mountainous, mostly covered with sandstone. The mountain ranges are located in the north-south direction. The difference in elevation of the park is 100-1327 meters.

Climate

The climate is tropical and monsunal. Due to the altitude, temperatures are slightly lower than in the rest of the country. They are between 15 ° C and 30 ° C.

Flora and Fauna

The Yok National Park is home to Sai tropical rainforests, mixing and Dipterocarpwälder. It is the habitat of many different plant species and animal species.

Flora

The proportion of mixed forests is approximately 84 %, these are at a height of 100 to 600 meters. The most important plants are and A. tomentosum Homalium from the family of pasture plants, Dry Dipterocarpwälder make only 2.5%, and flourish at an elevation of 400 meters. Here you can find and A. Shorea obtusa. The tropical forest is found at elevations from sea level to about 600 meters, it has a share of just under 3%.

Fauna

The wildlife includes, for example, Tiger, the Asiatic black bear, sambar deer subspecies Rusa unicolor cambojensis, Waldrebhühner the genus Arborophila chlorine opus, Bärenmakak (Macaca arctoides ), Chinese serow ( Capricornis milneedwardsii ), Bengal and many bird and reptile species. Particularly interesting is discovered here in 1973 by Kitti Thonglongya bat pig nose bat ( Craseonycteris thonglongya ); she is 3 centimeters body length and 1.5 to 2 grams of body weight, the smallest mammalian species worldwide; the adult specimens have a wingspan of about 10 centimeters.

Attractions

The Sai Yok Waterfall ( Thai: น้ำตก ไทรโยค ) plunges directly into the Kwai River and is not far from the park headquarters. In addition, caves can be seen, the fertil Dao Cave ( Thai: ถ้ำ ดาวดึงส์ ) with eight chambers and very beautiful stalactites.
