Sail-les-Bains

Sail- les- Bains is a commune with 205 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the community association Pays de la Pacaudière.

Geography

Sail- les- Bains is located on the northwestern edge of the Rhône -Alpes region in the Massif Central, 94 km north- west of Lyon. Neighboring communities of Sail- les- Bains are Montaiguët -en- Forez in the northwest, Urbise in the northeast, La Pacaudière the southeast and Saint -Martin- d'Estréaux in the southwest. The municipal area covers 2111 hectares, the average altitude is 350 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 300 meters. The river Urbise flows through the community.

History

The part of the name Sail Sail- les- Bains is derived from the Latin word salius ( skip). Salientes means " fountain ", aqua saliens means " sparkling water ". Thus, the thermal springs of Sail- les- Bains were already in Gallo-Roman times (52 BC to 486 AD) known. The addition les -Bains dates from a later period, it is French and means " the baths ".
