Saint-Andéol-de-Berg

Saint- Andéol- de-Berg is a commune of 130 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the south of Ardeche in the Rhone -Alpes. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes Berg et Coiron.

Geography

Saint- Andéol -de- Berg is located in Pays de Berg ( " hill country ") between the Cevennes and the French Alps, 18 kilometers west of Montelimar. Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Andéol- de-Berg are Villeneuve -de-Berg in the northwest, Alba -la -Romaine in the northeast, southeast and Valvignères in Saint- Maurice- d'Ibie in the southwest. The municipal area covers 1557 hectares, the average altitude is 393 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 360 meters.

History

Saint- Andéol- de-Berg was first mentioned in the 7th century. Apart from the name of this community, the place name Villeneuve -de-Berg, the name of the ridge on which Saint- Andéol- de-Berg is located, and the name of the Pays contains the word mountain. It is disputed whether the word mountain in this case is of Germanic origin and came into the region by the domination of the Burgundians, or whether it has already been used in Gallo-Roman times and from the Indo-European word bhergh (high) stems.
