Saint Astius

Astios, Latin form of the name Astius, († 100 ) was a Christian martyr and saint. He lived in the time of Trajan, and was bishop of the church of Dyrrachium.

According to legend, let him Agricola, the Roman governor of the province of Epirus, imprison. By means of torture should Astios be forced to worship the god Dionysus. But he resisted and suffered martyrdom on the cross. Peregrinus, Germanus, Lucian, Pompeius, Hesychius, Papius and Saturninus, who advocated Astios were also subsequently captured, put in chains and thrown from a galley in the Adriatic Sea.

Astios is especially revered in the Orthodox Church. His feast day is there June 4, in the Catholic Church, it is the 7th of July.
