Saint Aurelia’s Church, Strasbourg

The Protestant Church of Sainte- Aurélie ( Aureliakirche, before 1324 still Moritz Church ) is one of the oldest religious buildings of the city of Strasbourg in Alsace.

History and Facilities

Originally built as a chapel of an early Christian cemetery church is first mentioned in the 8th century. In today's system, the church consists of a massive, unadorned Romanesque bell tower ( 12th century, increased in the 14th century) behind the choir and a wide baroque nave without transepts from 1765, the largest Strasbourg church building of the 18th century.

Silbermann organ

Facilities include a bell of 1410, and a clock tower from the builder of the new astronomical clock in Strasbourg Cathedral, Jean -Baptiste Schwilgué, from 1845; a pulpit from 1670, an altar from 1699 and Andreas - Silberman organ from 1718 with its original casing ( pipe and fan were replaced in 1952 ), which date from the Gothic predecessor; of 1767 are paintings on the organ gallery.

Restoration

After plastered in 2007, the bell tower and the new weathered stones have been replaced is the roof to be re- covered and re-plastered the exterior walls of the nave since the beginning and the end of 2009. With the restoration of the interior was begun in 2012.

Coll October 2011 is the organ in the workshop of the organ builder flowers Roeder in Haguenau. It is restored and will be returned to the earlier disposition of John Andreas Silbermann.
