The monks of the monastery played an important role in the economy of the town. This was due to the salt road, near the ford where you could cross the Gardon. In 1806 a fountain was built under Napoleon. Previously, the residents drew their water from a capitelle. In Saint -Bonnet there was a Roman aqueduct.
