Saint-Cosme

Saint -Cosme ( German Sanct Cosmann ) is a commune in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch and Canton Dannemarie. Saint -Cosme is one of the 33 member churches in the community association Porte d' Alsace ( CCPA ). With 89 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Cosme is the second smallest of the 377 municipalities in the department of Haut-Rhin.

Geography

The municipality of Saint -Cosme in the field of Burgundian gate is between Belfort and Mulhouse, in the extreme southwest of the Alsace region, bordering the region of Franche -Comté. The eastern boundary of the municipality is the Traubach which drains via the Largue to Ill and thus belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Rhine. The village itself is situated on the Rhine-Rhône watershed.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Cosme are Bellemagny in the north, Guevenatten in the east, Bréchaumont in the south, Reppe in the southwest and Vauthiermont in the West.

The church of Saint -Côme -et-Saint - Damien (St. Cosmas and Damian ) is one of the oldest in the southwest of Alsace. It was built between the 12th and 14th century and is surrounded by walls and several hundred years old elms and lime trees. The church is lit up at night. The coat of arms shows a old original figure of the Church.
