Saint Emma Monastery

Saint Emma Monastery is the monastery of the Benedictine nuns in Greensburg (Pennsylvania) in the U.S., which belongs to Federation of Bavarian Benedictine abbeys.

History

The monastery was founded by the Bavarian Benedictine Abbey of St. Walburg in Eichstätt. In 1931, 10 nurses came under the leadership of M. Leonarda Fitz OSB from Bavaria to Pennsylvania ( USA), to support the geratenen by 1929 global economic crisis in need Benedictine monks of the Abbey of St. Vincent in Latrobe, Westmoreland County. In the years 1943/1944, the sisters acquired reason for starting their own monastery. 1954, a retreat house and built from 1961 to 1963 the monastery to be built. Since January 2010, St. Emma is an independent Konventualpriorat.
