Saint-Galmier

Saint- Galmier is a commune with 5580 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes. It is located about 20 km north of Saint- Étienne on the banks of the river Coise. Its inhabitants are called Baldomériens.

Saint- Galmier is the administrative seat of the canton of Saint- Galmier that belongs to the district Montbrison. Historically it was part of the former province of Forez.

The place is known for its mineral water, which is sold under the name Badoit of Danone.

In addition, since 1899 there is a horse racing track that was the scene of the 2005 World Cross Country Championships.
