Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site

Saint- Gaudens National Historic Site is a memorial of the National Park Service in New Hampshire, which commemorates the life and work of sculptor Augustus Saint -Gaudens.

History

The park includes the house, the gardens and various studios of the major American sculptor Augustus Saint -Gaudens ( 1848-1907 ). From 1885 to 1897, the terrain Saint-Gaudens served under the name Aspet as a summer resort, from 1900, he moved his permanent residence here.

The National Historic Site was authorized on August 31, 1964 by the Congress of the United States and opened on 30 May 1977. In addition to the Appalachian Trail, this is the only park in the National Park Service in the state of New Hampshire.

Saint- Gaudens today

On the grounds and in the buildings of the park more than 100 copies and originals of various works are Saint- Gaudens ' issued. The house preserved with original features as well as several studios can be visited. A visitor center is open to information and points to request a video film about the life of the artist. A hiking trail leads through adjoining woodlands.
