Saint-Georges-de-Commiers

Saint -Georges -de- Commiers is a commune with 2115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the Communauté de communes Local Government Association du Sud Grenoblois.

Saint -Georges -de- Commiers is located about 18 kilometers south of Grenoble in the valley of the Drac.

Attractions

  • The two churches of Saint -Pierre and Saint -Georges are classified as worthy of protection as a monument historique monuments. Saint -Georges was built around the year 1080 in the Romanesque style. Saint- Pierre was built in the middle of the 12th century.
  • Saint -Georges -de- Commiers is the terminus of the Chemin de Fer de La Mure, a company founded in 1888 the railway line between Saint -Georges -de- Commiers and La Mure. The line was originally established for coal transportation between the two communities. Today, a museum train runs on the line.
