Saint-Girons, Ariège
Saint- Girons ( Occitan Sent Gironç ) is a commune with 6423 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Ariège in the Midi -Pyrénées; it is the administrative center for the district of Saint- Girons and the canton of Saint- Girons.
Geography
Saint- Girons is located in the center of a basin at the foot of the Pyrenees and at the confluence of the salad with the Lez and the Baup. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park Pyrenees Ariégeoises.
Unlike the neighboring Roman Lugdunum Consoranum - Saint- Lizier - Saint-Girons occurs only around 1100 in appearance.
Saint- Girons is the capital of couserans.
