Saint-Hippolyte (Haut-Rhin)

Saint- Hippolyte ( German Sankt Pilt ) is a commune with 1035 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes du Pays de Ribeauvillé.

Saint- Hippolyte is located a few kilometers southwest of Sélestat in the upper Rhine valley on the eastern slopes of the Vosges Mountains, surrounded by vineyards on the Route du Vin ( Alsace Wine Route ). The municipal area is a part of the Alsace Grand Cru Gloeckelberg.

The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. The village itself is located on the access road for the first time mentioned in 1147 Hohkönigsburg. The name of the settlement proceeds to the holy Hippolytus of Rome ( German: Sankt Pilt ) whose martyrdom is also depicted on the emblem of the town.
