Saint Louis Athletica

Saint Louis Athletica was an American women's soccer franchise from St. Louis, MO. The first team played in the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer.

Athletica belonged to the Athletic Club of St. Louis, which is operated by Jeff Cooper. In addition to the women's team this still include the men's team AC St. Louis and St. Louis youth soccer league.

History

St. Louis Athletica was in February 2007, the founding members of the newly formed Women's Professional Soccer. On February 27 of the year the Saint Louis Soccer United LLC has signed a letter of intent, after which the club was founded. The initially planned for 2007 first edition the League was postponed to 2009 due to the Women's World Cup 2007 and the 2008 Olympic Games. In November 2008, the name of the club was officially announced and presented the club logo to the public.

In the debut season 2009 St. Louis Athletica played with the front of the league and finished at the end of normal time in second place behind Los Angeles Sol. In the ensuing playoffs, the team failed to players such as Sara Larsson, Kia McNeill and Eniola Aluko in the semifinals after a 0-1 defeat at Sky Blue FC. Nevertheless, Hope Solo was honored after the season as the goalie of the year.

The second season started the team with a win against FC Gold Pride. After another four games of the association filed for financial reasons a season on 27 May 2010. All players were released on 1 June 2010.
