Saint Marcella

The Holy Marcella (* about 325 in Rome; † around 410 in Rome) was martyr of the early church. The first name Marcella is Latin and is actually an old family name. He goes to the Roman name Marcus ( " the god of war Mars consecrated " ) back.

Marcella, who came from an old Roman nobility, refused to marry again after the early death of her husband. Their marriage had lasted only seven months. She devoted her life to Christ and gathered a group of young girls and pious widows around, with whom she spent her time in prayer and asceticism. Marcella itself was informed by the church father Jerome, who also wrote her biography later.
