Saint-Martin-de-Varreville

Saint -Martin -de- Varreville is a commune with 211 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region. The village is situated on the Cotentin Peninsula. The code name Utah Beach during the Second World War included a stretch of coastline from Saint -Martin -de- Varreville. It was known because three American paratroopers had gone to the same Saint -Martin church to come to bandages of the Germans, who had pitched in a small hospital. So the Americans were able to help three of their wounded comrades.
