Saint-Merd-les-Oussines

Saint- Merd -les- Oussines ( Sent Merd in Occitan ) is a commune with 131 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The church is the seat of the municipal association Bugeat - Sornac - Millevaches au Coeur.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin. Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 60 kilometers south-west, Égletons about 30 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 30 kilometers southeast.

The place is located on the right bank of the upper reaches of the Vézère, a right tributary of the Dordogne. The municipality will also crossed by Ars, a left tributary of the River Vézère.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Merd -les- Oussines are Peyrelevade in the north, and Millevaches Chavanac in the east, in the southeast Meymac, Saint- Germain- Lavolps in the south and Pérols -sur -Vézère in the southwest, Bugeat in the west and Tarnac in the northwest.

Traffic

The village is located about 30 kilometers northwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

History

The name Saint- Merd -les- Oussines evolved from " de Sancti Medardi Chabanes " in 1315 on Saint Merd les Aussines en Bas -Limousin to today's spelling. The name refers to the holy Medardus of Noyon. Oussine comes from Occitan and means uncultivated land, a field that is allowed to lie fallow.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms is quartered, rotumrandet heraldic top right and bottom left on golden background a green arbutus, top left and bottom right below a gold bar on a red background a silver dove. In the middle, the other fields partially overlapping on a blue background, an oblique red bar framed by three golden spurs.
