Saint Michael (Barbados)

Saint Michael is an administrative unit ( Parish ) of the island nation of Barbados. She had 2008 estimated 94 860 inhabitants in an area of 39 km ², making it by far the most populous parish of Barbados.

History and locations

In Saint Michael is Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, and the port Deep Water Harbour, to create the most cruise ships. There also produced in Barbados sugar is loaded.

The name comes from the Saint Michael Church " St. Michael and all Angels ", which was built in 1641 and is since 1825 the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Barbados.

Personalities

The cricketer Frank Worrell and the singer Robyn Rihanna Fenty (* 1988), better known by her stage name Rihanna, were born here. Rihanna celebrates in honor of Saint Michael the so-called Rihanna Day, which is celebrated on February 21.
