Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte

Saint- Nizier -du -Moucherotte is a commune with 1058 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It is located about seven kilometers west of Grenoble ( straight line ) in the Vercors mountain range, on the northern slope of the 1901 m high mountain Moucherotte.

The village is known as a winter sports, but the tourist importance has declined since the closure of leading to the summit of Moucherotte cable car in 1977. There are two short lifts and cross- country trails with a total length of 45 km. From 1920 to 1949 combined a 39 km long electric tram line the village with Grenoble and Villard -de- Lans.

On the Dauphine -Hill 1968 one of the two ski jumping competitions took place during the Olympic Winter Games. From 1980 to 1982 jumping were held as part of the Ski Jumping World Cup on the hill. The hill has been closed since 1990 and has been left to decay.
