Saint-Ours (Savoie)

Saint -Ours is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Saint -Ours is at 570 m above sea level. M., about 22 km north of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the southern Albanais, in the foothills west of the massif of the Wallows: a scenic location on a sloping hillside above the valley to the southwest of Sierre.

History

The municipality of Saint -Ours was already inhabited during the Roman period, which could be demonstrated by means of numerous traces of this period. The place name comes from the Latin personal name Ursus. In the Middle Ages Saint -Ours belonged to the rule Cusy. As of 1730, the village was known as the site of a factory, which produced luxury tableware.
