Saint-Ours (Savoie)
Saint -Ours is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.
Geography
Saint -Ours is at 570 m above sea level. M., about 22 km north of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the southern Albanais, in the foothills west of the massif of the Wallows: a scenic location on a sloping hillside above the valley to the southwest of Sierre.
The area of 4.59 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Albanais. The area lies in a Molassehügelland at the foot of the massif of the Wallows. It is drained by the Sierre and its tributaries west to the Lac du Bourget. From the valley of Sierre, the municipality's area extends northward to the plateau of La Forêt and the slope of Saint -Ours to the level of Chainaz. Here is 690 meters above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Saint -Ours.
At Saint -Ours addition to the actual center also includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:
- Bassa (500 m above sea level. M. ) in a basin at the foot of the Montagne de Bange
- La Forêt ( 483 m above sea level. M. ) on the height between the valley of Albanais and the Valley of Sierre
- L' Ecluse (520 m above sea level. M. ) on the hillside below the village
- Vingerel (550 m above sea level. M. ) on the western slope of the height of Chainaz
Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Ours -les- Frasses Chainaz are in the north, Cusy in the east, Saint- Offenge lingerie in the south and Épersy, Mognard and Saint- Girod to the west.
History
The municipality of Saint -Ours was already inhabited during the Roman period, which could be demonstrated by means of numerous traces of this period. The place name comes from the Latin personal name Ursus. In the Middle Ages Saint -Ours belonged to the rule Cusy. As of 1730, the village was known as the site of a factory, which produced luxury tableware.

The parish church of Saint -Ours was built in 1868.
Population
With 558 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Ours is one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined in the 20th century, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s thanks to the attractive residential area again.
Economy and infrastructure
Saint -Ours was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. At the optimal sunlit slopes wine production.
