Saint-Prancher

Saint- Prancher is a commune in the Vosges department of the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Neufchâteau, the Canton of Mirecourt and was founded in 1998 Kommunalverband Xaintois.

Geography

The 73 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring municipality of Saint - Prancher is in the countryside Xaintois on the border with the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle, about 40 kilometers north- west of Epinal and 38 kilometers south of Nancy.

The relief of 4.41 km ² of the municipal area is little organized. In the extreme northwest is achieved with 385 m above sea level, the highest point. Here is the continuing northward surveys that are part of the ridge Colline de Sion start with the distinctive tower signal de Vaudémont (541 m).

The municipal area is drained by the Ruisseau de Bicène and its cash- Saulnier Le Ruisseau to Vraine in the Meuse catchment. Characteristic of the area are vast fields of grain. Smaller forest areas are found in the north- west ( La Penot, Bois Colas ) and southeast ( Bois de la Rochelle ).

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Prancher are Aboncourt in the northeast, Repel the east, in the southeast Totainville, Biécourt in the south, Dommartin- sur- Vraine in the southwest and Maconcourt in the northwest.

History

In 1287, the name Saint- Prancher first appears in a text. It is a modification of Sanctus Pancras (St. Pancras, Roman martyr of the early Christian church).

During the Ancien Régime, the village was under the Marquis de Bassompierre - Remonville. On the eve of the French Revolution gentry divided from the environment as well as the sisters of the Congregation in Mirecourt and the monastery of St. Gangolf ( Collegiate Church Saint- Gengoult ) in Toul landed property in Saint- Prancher.

The tithe went to two-thirds of the chapter Remiremont and one third to the parish priest. The parish, which also included the neighboring village Repel, belonged to the deanery in the Diocese of Toul Poussay.

In the time of the French Revolution, the village of Saint Preucher said.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture continues to play an important role in Saint- Prancher.

The community is located off the national traffic flows. Six kilometers south of the village held partially -developed two-lane secondary road 166 that leads from Epinal Mirecourt after about Neufchâteau.
