Saint-Tropez

Saint- Tropez ( Sant - Provence TROUPES ) is a small harbor town with 4499 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the French department of Var in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Description

St. Tropez is located on the Côte d' Azur, at the eastern foot of the Massif des Maures, on the northern shore of the peninsula. The former fishing village had already attracted towards the end of the 19th century many artists such as Paul Signac, Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard, whose works are now exhibited in the situated next to the port Musée de l' Annonciade.

The upturn in Saint- Tropez began in the 1950s when the place became a meeting place for artists and high society. Saint- Tropez is famous for its large marina and the Baie de Pampelonne, the largest sandy beach of the Cote d' Azur, which is, however, mainly on the territory of the neighboring village of Ramatuelle. Many prominent Europeans spend their vacation in Saint- Tropez, including the - again belonging to Ramatuelle - Tahiti Plage beach club, Club 55, Nikki Beach and Aqua Club. The many rich tourists are in Saint- Tropez many expensive restaurants and boutiques available.

The village is ( " La Citadelle " ) surmounted by a 1592 incurred citadel overlooking the city. It houses a museum of maritime and local history. Saint- Tropez has only 4499 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), but throughout the year are about five million visitors there.

In Germany, Saint- Tropez has become known primarily for Gunter Sachs and Brigitte Bardot, and by the gendarmerie movies with Louis de Funès.

History

Saint- Tropez, named after Saint Torpes, an early Christian martyr, who was beheaded in the 1st century to the 20th century was just a simple fishing village. The strategic location interested since the 8th century rulers and rulers. 1944 Allied troops landed in the course of Operation Dragoon in Saint- Tropez. In 1965 at the outer end of the bay, an artificial mini- Venice (Port Grimaud ). The hinterland was once inhabited much stronger than today. The farmers moved away because they only earned very poor with agriculture and the tourist.

Traffic

In road transport, in July and August during the day of about 10 to 20 clock two-hour delay the rule. Saint- Tropez is also reachable by passenger ferries from Ste Maxime. The buses of the Société de Transports Departmental du Var ( Sodetrav ) connect Saint- Tropez Saint- Raphaël. A rail connection has no more Saint- Tropez since the closure of the narrow gauge railway train of Pignes. International connection has St. Tropez primary. Due to the Nice airport, which is about 1.5 hours drive away

Art and Saint Tropez

In the history of modern art Saint-Tropez plays a prominent role. Paul Signac discovered this light fulfilled place and took painters like Matisse, Bonnard or Marquet to Saint Tropez. Here the painting developed from Pointillism to Fauvism. This development is documented in detail in the Musée de l' Annonciade of St. Tropez. Alf Bayrle spent between 1928-1934 months in St. Tropez as the guest of Madame Aude.

Also for the next generation remained St. Tropez attracts. Bernard Buffet, Campigli, David Hockney lived and worked in St. Tropez. Today, living in Saint Tropez painter Stefan Szczesny continues this tradition.
