Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Quebec
Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac is a municipality in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located in the administrative region of Laurentides, about 30 kilometers west of Montreal. Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac is part of the regional county municipality ( municipalité régional du comté ) Deux- Montagnes, has an area of 9.31 km ² and has 15 689 inhabitants ( 2011).
Geography
Pointe- Calumet is located on the north shore of Lac des Deux Montagnes, which belongs to the mouth area of the Ottawa River. Neighboring municipalities are Pointe- Calumet in the South West, Saint -Joseph -du -Lac in the West, Saint- Eustache in the north, Deux- Montagnes in the east and the Montreal borough of L' Île- Bizard -Sainte -Geneviève in the south ( on the opposite side of the Lac des Deux Montagnes ).
History
Named after the place of Saint Martha of Bethany, the " sur -le- Lac " suffix refers to the lakeside location. Until the 1950s, the later city area was largely uninhabited. In 1956, the parish was founded, four years later, the foundation of the civil parish was followed by a cession of territory of the neighboring commune of Saint -Eustache. In 1973, the rapidly growing Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac city status. Alone 2001-2011 doubled the number of inhabitants.
In Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac is a convent of the Congregation of Solesmes de.
Population
According to the 2011 census counted Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac 15 689 inhabitants, which corresponds to a population density of 1685.2 inh. / Km ². 90.1 % of the population reported French as the main language, the proportion of English was 5.1 %. As a bilingual ( French and English) is designated 0.8 %, to other languages and multiple responses accounted for 4.0%. Only 50.9 % spoke French. In 2001, 93.4 % of the population were Roman Catholic, 2.4% Protestant, and 3.3% non-denominational.
Traffic
The place is accessible by the main road 344. In addition, the Autoroute 640 runs north of the town in the direction of Repentigny. Two bus lines connect Sainte -Marthe -sur -le- Lac with the station of Deux -Montagnes, where connection is made to the AMT commuter trains to Montreal.
