Saizenay

Saizenay is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saizenay is located on 512 m above sea level. M., northeast of Salins- les -Bains, 35 km east-southeast of the city of Dole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a valley between the Mont Poupet in the northwest and the heights of the first Jura plateau in the southeast.

The area of ​​4.88 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Saizenay, which has a width of about one kilometer and a length of four kilometers. By Todeur this valley floor is drained north to Lison. History

The territory of Saizenay been inhabited since prehistoric times and during the Gallo- Roman period. First mentioned is the place in the 12th century. Saizenay belonged in the Middle Ages the Knights Templar of Salins. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church, former chapel of the Knights Templar, has a bell tower from the 14th century and a pulpit from the 16th century.

Population

With 106 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saizenay one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 256 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares near the secondary road D492 which leads from Salins- les- Bains to Ornans. Further road links exist with Geraise and muon.
