Sala, Sweden

Sala is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västmanland County and the historic province of Västmanland.

The main town of the municipality of the same city rights were granted in 1624 by King Gustav II Adolf.

Silbergrube

The place was initially not at its present location, but at the nearby silver mine that was created at the time of Gustav Vasa. The city was laid out with the granting of town rights to the present site. The mine was from the 15th century to 1908 in operation and is now one of the attractions of the place. In addition to silver even lead was mined.
