Salahuddin of Selangor

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al- Haj ibni Hisamuddin Alam Shah Al- Haj ( born March 8, 1926 at the Istana Bandar Temasya, Kuala Langat, Malaysia, † 21 November 2001 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) was the Sultan of Selangor and from 1999 to to his death in 2001, Yang di - Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia.

Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in 1960 as the successor of his father Sultan Alam Shah Hisamuddin the eighth Sultan of Selangor. On 26 April 1999, he was chosen by the monarchs of the Malaysian states for the eleventh Yang di - Pertuan Agong and took office on 11 September 1999. He was the oldest Sultan since independence of Malaysia, who was elected king.

During his tenure as sultan of Selangor the cities of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya in 1974 were removed in 2001 from the State and charged to federal territories.
