Salcea
Salcea is a town in Suceava County in Romania.
Location
Salcea is located in the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians, on a plateau between the rivers Siret and Suceava in the west to the east. The county capital of Suceava is located about 10 kilometers west.
History
The more rural Salcea gained importance through the development of the nearby district capital of Suceava and by the opening of the airfield Ştefan cel Mare in 1963 north of the town. 2004 Salcea was declared a city.
Population
1930, by the then about 4500 inhabitants of the present-day city almost all Romanians. As of the 2002 census lived in Salcea 8719 people, including 8382 Romanians and 332 Roma. Only in 2830 were living in the city proper, 5889 in the three incorporated villages.
Traffic
South of the city runs the rail route Bucharest - Suceava. The district has Văratec keep on commuter trains in the direction of Suceava and Paşcani a railway station. There are bus connections to Suceava.
