The nuclear power plant Salem (English Salem Nuclear Power Plant ) is a nuclear power plant in the United States. It is in the state of New Jersey in the near Lower Alloway Creek Township and is one of 42.59 % of Exelon Generation LLC and PSEG Nuclear to 57.41 % of the LLC, which operates the power plant. Immediately next door is the Hope Creek nuclear power plant.

History

It was planned to the power plant from 1966. Construction of Unit 1 and 2 was carried out on 25 September 1968. Built by two pressurized water reactors of the Westinghouse Company. The start of commercial operation of Unit 1 was carried out on 30 June 1977, at block 2 on 13 October 1981. Licences expire respectively on August 13, 2016 and April 18, 2020. On 18 August 2009, the operator PSEG at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC ) requested an extension by 20 years.
