Salih Bora

Salih Bora ( born August 23, 1953) is a former Turkish wrestler. It was in 1977, 1981 and 1982 Vice World Champion in Greco-Roman style in the paper weight.

Career

Salih Bora began as a teenager at the sports club Altinay Kulübü with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco- Roman style, and moved to the first major successes at the national level for Sports Club Istanbul Demirspor Kulübü. The 1.51 meter tall athlete started in paper weight, the lightest, introduced in 1969, weight class at 48 kg body weight had their limit.

His debut at an international championship he gave in 1973, when he finished at the World Championships in Tehran with two wins and two defeats the 7th Place. Also in 1974, he was employed at the World Championships, which took place in Katowice. He came there to a victory over the strong Iranian Rahim Aliabadi, but was defeated by Constantin Alexandru from Romania and Bulgaria Georgi Georgijew out and got away with it on the 8th Place.

A further step forward he made at the World Championships 1975 in Minsk, where he wins over Ferenc Seres, Hungary, Dietmar Hinz, DDR and Karoly Kacsar, USA and defeats against Gheorghe Berceanu, Romania and Stefan Angelov from Bulgaria with the 4th place just missed a medal. At the European Championships in 1976 in Leningrad Salih Bora had to accept a setback because he lost there against Stefan Angelov and Constantin Alexandru and finished in under eight participants only the 7th Place. Also at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, it was much better for him, because he came there only to a victory over Michael Farina from the United States and retired after losing to Dietmar Hinz and Stefan Angelov after the third round, landing on 7th place.

In 1977, Salih Bora missed at the European Championships in Bursa after beating Dietmar Hinz and Santha Jozsef from Hungary and defeats Kucinski Wieslaw from Poland and Constantin Alexandru with a 4th place again just a medal. But at the World Cup this year in Gothenburg, he managed to breakthrough because he was with wins over Jozsef Santha Jan Mansson, Sweden, Jürgen Kleer, FRG and Todor Yordanov Bulgaria Vice World Champion, taking in the final battle against Alexei Shumakov from the USSR lost.

In 1979 he occupied at the European Championships in Bucharest with wins over Haaparanta Reijo from Finland and Freddy Scherer, Germany and defeats against Anatoly Basin from the USSR and Pawel Christow once again the 4th Place. Even more annoying for him, however, was the fact that Turkey in 1980 did not participate in the next three international championships, the World Cup in 1979, the European Championships in 1980 and the Olympic Games in Moscow. This creates the possibility he was taken to win a medal or two.

That he would have been capable of doing, he proved in 1981 when he, inter alia, at the European Championships in Gothenburg Vincenzo Maenza defeated from Italy and won the European Championship bronze medal. Even better, he cut off in the World Cup this year in Oslo, for there he was with wins over Freddy Scherer, Lars Rønningen, Norway, Ferenc Seres and Fumikazu Sasaki of Japan in defeat in the final against the Olympic champion from 1980 Saksylik Uschkempirow from the USSR turn vice-champion.

After a weaker 5th place at the European Championship in Varna, he repeated his success of the 1981 World Championship in 1982 at the World Championships in Katowice. He finished there behind Timor Taimuraz Kasaraschwili from the USSR for the third time the 2nd place in the World Cup.

1983 started Salih Bora only at the Mediterranean Games in Casablanca, where he finished 3rd in the paper weight behind Vincenzo Maenza and Ali Farag from Egypt. At the European Championships in 1984 in Jönköping he disappointed, because he lost to Tanner Pekka from Finland and Magyatdin Allachwerdijew from the USSR and peaked at eight participants only the 7th Place. Also at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, where many of the favored wrestler missing from the Eastern bloc countries, he managed not to win a medal to him. He arrived there after a defeat against Vincenzo Maenza in the first fight though to victories over Mark Fuller from the United States, Li Haisheng from China and Kent Andersson from Sweden, but the decisive battle for the Olympic bronze medal bout against Test Category Saito from Japan ( 5:7 techn. dots).

After these Olympics Salih Bora resigned from active wrestling. He pursued a coaching career and has recently become head coach of the Turkish wrestler in the Greco- Roman style. An office which he still holds in 2009. One of his " master student " is the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Hamza Yerlikaya.
