Salle, Abruzzo

Salle is a municipality with 324 inhabitants and is located near Bolognano and Caramanico Terme in the province of Pescara.

Geography

The municipality covers 21 km ². A part of the territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the National Park of Maiella.

Among the districts ( fractions ) is one Salle Nuova.

Borders the following municipalities: Bolognano, Caramanico Terme, Corfinio, Pratola Peligna Roccacasale, Sulmona and Tocco da Casauria.

The village lies in the Appennien away from the Adriatic coast at the northern edge of the Maiella National Park and 52 kilometers.

History

The historic center dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Beginning of the 20th century inhabited 1700 inhabitants the community. In 1915, the community was rocked by a powerful earthquake and many people left the settlement. The population increased in recent decades almost continuously from, of 1117 inhabitants in 1951 to 312 inhabitants in 2001. The reason is that many young people in the village can not find work and the area is also prone to earthquakes.

Attractions

The most important architectural landmark of the village is the Castello di Genova Salle. The castle was built in the 11th century.

There are several museums in the area:

  • The Castle Museum Castello di Genova Salle, the Archaeological Museum, Natural History Museum and the Ethnographic Museum.

Specialty

In the surroundings of the village vines of Montepulciano for the DOC - cultivated wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
