Salomon Group

The Salomon SA is a French sporting goods manufacturers especially for winter sports, the part of the Finnish company Amer Sports Group.

History

Salomon was founded in 1947 as a family business by Francois Salomon ( called Pepé, become then just 50 years old) and his son Georges Salomon founded in the Southeast French city of Annecy. In a small workshop in the beginning ski boards were produced, later bindings. The mid-1960s invented Salomon junior ski binding with automatic release, also called security bond. In 1971 Salomon with the binding models Equipé 505 and 502 on the German market. 1972 Salomon sold worldwide over a million bonds, which corresponds to a converted turnover of around ten million euros. Thus Solomon stood on top of the world.

In 1980, the first Salomon ski boot came on the market, the CX90 Equipé. In the early 1980s, the company went to the Lyon Stock Exchange. Since 1984, the company is also involved in summer sports. So the golf equipment TaylorMade was acquired and was started in 1992 with the manufacture of walking shoes. In the early 1990s, there was a crisis in the ski market, yet Solomon in 1990 brought the first own skis on the market, for which a new factory was opened in Rumilly.

After 50 years of existence, the German Adidas AG bought in 1997 for 2.5 billion euros, the company and changed its name to Adidas -Salomon AG has to offer. Georges Salomon retired in the course of which from the corporate management back. Due to absence of success in winter sports area Salomon was sold in late 2005 to the Finnish company Amer Sports for only 485 million euros, but the TaylorMade brand remained with Adidas. Successive jobs were lost, in 2008, the factory was closed and ceased production of Salomon skis in France.

The co- founder Georges Salomon was considered a visionary who was always one step ahead of the competition. October 5, 2010 Salomon died aged 85, as the group officially announced in an AFP press release.

Salomon provides for the Graubunden ski manufacturer Zai manufactures special bindings that are 350 grams lighter than the standard Salomon bindings.
