Salomon Jadassohn

Salomon Jadassohn ( born August 13, 1831 in Breslau, † February 1, 1902 in Leipzig ) was a German composer, pianist, music theorist and music teacher.

Life

Salomon Jadassohn received his first musical education in Wroclaw in Moritz Brosig. His teachers since 1848 Moritz Hauptmann at Leipzig Conservatory, and in the years 1849 to 1851 Franz Liszt in Weimar.

After completing his studies Jadassohn took over the position of conductor of the Choir of the Leipzig synagogue. In the late 1860s, he headed the Euterpe concerts in Leipzig. In 1871 he entered the Conservatory in Leipzig; Here he held the position of a teacher of music theory, piano and composition. He enjoyed an excellent reputation as a music teacher. In the 1880s, he was conductor of the Gdansk concert association. With the appointment as conductor of the Philharmonic Choir and the Orchestra of the Opera to Bremen, he succeeds by Martin Traugott. Later he went back to Leipzig, where he died in 1902.

His compositions is very diverse. It includes symphonies, serenades for orchestra, overtures, concertos, chamber music, piano pieces, choirs, songs and vocal duets and spiritual works. Many of his works published Jadassohn under his pseudonym " Olivier ". He also published several music-theoretical writings, which at the time had a major impact. Jadassohn's works and writings are now largely forgotten.

Salomon Jadassohn was with the singing teacher Helene Friedländer (1843-1891) married. His son Alexander Jadassohn (1873-1948) was a music publisher; his daughter Beate ( 1878 to after 1955 ) worked under the name Beate Beate Frederich and Jacoby as a children's book author. His daughter Bertha Jadassohn (1880-1934) married the composer Leo Fall 1904.
