Salonga National Park

The Salonga National Park (French: Parc national de la Salonga ) in the regions Equateur, Bandundu and Kasai - Occidental of the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1984 and part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

From 1984 to 1992, again in 1999, the park is located on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger. Cause is the general breakdown of law and order in the region and the resulting looting and the desertion of some of the guards of the park.

The park in the center of the basin of the Congo is the largest reserve in the tropical rain forests of Africa and accessible only by boat.

It is home to many endangered species such as the bonobo, Congo peacock, the forest elephant and crocodiles.
