Salpingidae

Scheinrüssler

The Scheinrüssler ( Salpingidae ) are a family of beetles dar.

Features

The beetles reach a body length of 2.5 to 4.5 millimeters and are reddish, black or metallic bronze. Some species are also two colors. The head is drawn out into a wide, flat extension (see also weevils ). The sensors are elfgliedrig and turned in front of the eyes. The pronotum is longer than wide and tapering front and rear. The elytra are nearly parallel, sometimes widened in the middle or at the rear end and provided with fine rows of dots. The legs have the Fußformel 5-5-4.

Occurrence

The Scheinrüssler is mainly found under the bark of deciduous or coniferous trees, some species of bark beetles in the aisles. As predators, they feed on living in the wood beetles and their larvae.

System

The Scheinrüssler were filed earlier together with the Haarscheinrüsslern ( Mycteidae ) into the family of dragons beetle ( Pythidae ).

In Central Europe, this group is represented by six genera with 14 species. In Europe so far 19 species of seven genera were detected. The Scheinrüssler family is divided into three subfamilies.
