Salpingopharyngeus muscle

The Musculus salpingopharyngeus (Latin for " Tube -pharyngeal muscle ") is a skeletal muscle of the head. It rises on the lower part of the cartilage of the Eustachian tube ( eustachian tube ) and moves downward, where it unites with the posterior column of the musculus palatopharyngeus. The muscle lifts the pharynx and larynx during swallowing to. In addition, it biases the plica salpingopharyngea and enables a tight sealing of the trachea with the epiglottis. The innervation is provided by the pharyngeal plexus ( pharyngeal plexus ), mainly on fibers of the vagus nerve ( cranial nerve X).
