Salt flat mouse

Salinomys delicatus is a living in Argentina rodent species from the group of the New world. It was only in 1995 scientifically described.

These animals are jumping mouse-like animals with strikingly long hind legs and large ears. They reach a body length 6-8 cm, the tail is 9-12 inches long. Weight is 9-15 grams. The long hair is colored whitish at the top and at the bottom olive gray. The tail is longer than the body and ends in a tassel.

These rodents are known only from four sites in western Argentina ( provinces of San Juan and San Luis ). Their habitat are bush country on the edge of salt flats. Otherwise, little is known about their way of life.

Their closest relatives are likely to Chaco mice ( Andalgalomys ) and be the animals of the genus Graomys.
