Salt metathesis reaction

Under salt metathesis is defined as a pairwise interchange of cations and anions. The name means place metathesis exchange or conversion.

In inorganic Salzmetathesereaktion the cations and anions of two salts replace each other. Most of these reactions occur in solutions. Drivers of this reaction may be the formation of stable salts, and the removal of a product from the equilibrium of the reaction.

Silver chloride is almost insoluble in aqueous solution. For this reason, it precipitated from a solution of a chloride salt in water with the addition of a silver salt solution as a pale yellow ground body.
