Saltdal is a Norwegian municipality. The center of the municipality is Rognan.

Saltdal is located a few kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The municipality extends from the fjord to the mountains and has a total area of ​​2215 km ². Of these, about 1,300 km ² are designated as a nature reserve. The area of Saltdal is one of the driest areas of Norway. 1999, only 99 mm of rainfall were measured.

Attractions

Junkerdal is a valley which extends to the east. The area was declared a National Park in 2004. The size is 682 km ². In the valley grow rare orchids that would not otherwise occur as far north.

Saltdal Museum is located about 1 km north of Rognan. The museum is arranged around a 1750 built " Captain's ". From here once drove in a freighter loaded with fish and furs to Bergen and returned with everyday goods for the residents of Saltdales back. In addition to the " Captain's " about 20 historic buildings were arranged from the area and thus form a small open- air museum.
