Saltspring Island

Salt Spring Iceland is located in the Canadian province of British Columbia island in the Pacific Ocean. The settlement Ganges is the center of the island and offers plenty of shopping opportunities for the smaller islands in the area. The island is about 29 km long and up to 14 km wide.

The island's name changed over time countless times. Even before the arrival of European explorers, there were different names for the island. In the language of the First Nations of the people of the island Saanich Cuan, which can be translated with each end, mutatis mutandis, and refers to the shape of the island was called ends. The Cowichan called it in their language Klaathem what can be translated with salt. In a map that was created during the reign of Governor James Douglas (1851-1855), is found then the name Chuan Iceland. This name goes back to a different dialect of the Cowichan. Demography
