Saltvik

Saltvik is a municipality in the autonomous Finnish province (Finnish: Lääni ) Åland. It is located in the northeast of Åland 's main island Fasta Åland, adjacent to the communities Finström in the West and in the South Sound. Saltvik has 1822 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and covers an area of 159.08 square kilometers. As in Åland is Swedish is the official language.

The first mention Saltviks dated to the year 1322. The name suggests that the place an important trading center (Swedish vikort ) was especially for the salt trade at that time. The church of Saltvik was built in the 14th century.

The highest point of Åland, the 129 meter high mountain Orrdalsklint, located in the municipality of Saltvik. To the municipality includes the villages of Antböle, Bertby, Boksö, Borgboda, Daglösa, Främmanby, Germundö, Haga, Haraldsby, Hjortö, Hullby, Kuggböle, Kvarnbo, Laby, Lagmansby, Lavsböle, Lavoe, Liby, Långbergsöda, Headlands, Ovanåker, Rangsby, Ryssböle, Ryssö, Saggö, Sonnröda, Strömma, Syllöda, Sålis, Tengsöda, Toböle, Vassböle, Åsgårda and Ödkarby.
