Salvador Fidalgo

Captain Don Salvador Fidalgo (* 1756, † 1803) was a Spanish navigator, explorer and hydrographer on behalf of the Spanish crown.

In the 1790s he explored the west coast of America south of Alaska, including the Nootka Sound. In 1790 Fidalgo named the port of Valdez ( Alaska) after the Spanish Navy Minister Antonio Valdés y Basan. Furthermore named Fidalgo 1790 Orca Inlet in Cordova (Alaska) " Puerto Cordova " after the Spanish city of Cordoba. The later named after him Fidalgo Island Iceland he never got to face.
