Salvaterra de Magos is a small town ( Vila ) in Portugal. It is known for its traditions in falconry and the bullfight. The 1903 built by Eiffel iron bridge Ponte Dona Amélia is her most famous building.

History

Finds evidence of a settlement since the Paleolithic era, including tools and tombs at the archaeological sites of Muge and Granho. From the Middle Stone Age shell middens (Portuguese Concheiros ) were found in Ribeira de Muge and in the wetland Paúl de Magos. The later settlers of the Neolithic left behind especially at Ribeira do Coelheiro and in the Valley Vale dos Lobos tracks. From Roman settlement period are, inter alia, Mosaics, amphorae and a ceramic stove.

The area of ​​today's circle came in the wake of the Arab conquest from 711 under the rule of the Moors who cared especially in agriculture for some development in the fertile region. During the Christian Reconquista, the area under King D. Dinis was repopulated, and Salvaterra de Magos received 1295 first town rights. Sports

The football club Clube Desportivo Salvaterrense founded in 1925, plays in the lower leagues of the district association of Santarém (as of 2013/14 ). Traffic

The A13 motorway passes near Salvaterra de Magos, with its own local departure. The national road N118 connects the town also with the 10 km south running highway A10, junction Benavente.

Until the termination of the passenger traffic in 2011 the circle above the breakpoints Marinhais and Muge on the railway line Linha de Vendas Novas was connected.

The public transport in the county Salvaterra de Magos is ensured by the bus Barraqueiro group.
