Salvatierra/Agurain

Agurain (Spanish: Salvatierra, officially Salvatierra / Agurain ) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Álava, in the Basque Country.

Agurain is the capital of the comarca Aguraingo koadrila and is located at St. James. Furthermore, belong to the municipality places like Alangua, Arrizala, Egileor, Iturrieta and Opakua.

History

Agurain was founded in 1256 by King Alfonso X of Castile. In 1463 the church was next to Vitoria, Miranda de Ebro, Pancorbo and Sajazarra one of five founding cities of the Brotherhood of Álava.
