Salvatore Bettiol

Salvatore Bettiol ( born November 28, 1961 in Volpago del Montello ) is a former Italian long-distance runner, who specializes in the marathon distance.

In 1986 and 1987 he won the first two sweeps of the Venice Marathon. On his second victory, he was Italian champion at the same time. Other national championship he won in 1986 and 1988 in the half marathon and marathon in 1991.

At the IAAF World Cup Marathon 1987 in Seoul Bettiol was third. In the following two years he finished the New York City Marathon, the second and fourth places. When he reached London Marathon 1990 second place and at the European Athletics Championships in the same year he was fourth. The marathon of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, he finished fifth.

In 1993 and 1994 he was the London Marathon fourth positions respectively and presented in the latter part his personal best of 2:09:40 h. In the Rotterdam Marathon in 1995 he reached the sixth place at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta 20th place was then left Bettiol yet another eight years running. Towards the end of his career he was twice third in the Masters Class (2003 and 2004) at the Boston Marathon.

Salvatore Bettiol is 1,78 m tall and had a competition weight of 57 kg. He trains the marathon runner Bruna Genovese.
