Salvatore De Giorgi

Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi ( born September 6, 1930 in Vernole, Lecce, Italy) is an emeritus archbishop of Palermo.

Biography

Salvatore De Giorgi received his theological training in Lecce and Molfetta and was ordained a priest in 1953. He then spent five years as personal secretary to the Archbishop of Lecce. From 1958 to 1973 he worked as a parish pastor in the Archdiocese of Lecce, but also took true numerous other commitments. He oversaw the Association of Italian Catholic University Students, the Association of Catholic Teachers advised, was a member of the Diocesan Commission for Sacred Music and was Episcopal Vicar for the Laity.

On November 21, 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Tulana and Auxiliary Bishop of Oria. The bishop He was ordained on 27 December of the same year by Archbishop Francesco Minerva. On November 29, 1975, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop in Oria and followed in this diocese on 17 March 1978 its predecessor Alberico Semeraro as diocesan bishop.
