Artificial lake

Salzgittersee is a 2.1 km long and 0.8 km wide lake to the west of the city Salzgitteraner part Lebenstedt. On the 75 -acre man-made lake is a 25 acre island that is reached by a bridge.

Formation

The first thought of creating a recreation area in the valley of the small rivers Fuhse and flute ( tributary of the Fuhse ) dates from the mid -1930s, but in 1958 there was the first concrete plans and 1959, the survey work of the Fuhsetales was taken. The gravel extraction, which was operated at the end only on the north shore, was finally discontinued in 1976.

Recreational operation

Salzgittersee is a popular leisure and recreation area of the city of Salzgitter. Directly on Salzgittersee canoes, kayaks and all associated equipment can be rented.

Since October 2008, there are four designated and certified by the Lower Saxony Association of Athletics Federations running routes.

Ice skating
