Sam Costa

Samuel Gabriel 'Sam' Costa (born 17 June 1910 in Stoke Newington, London, † September 23, 1981 in Northwood, London) was a popular English singer and pianist in dance bands and a radio host.

Costa began as a pianist in the dance band of Bert Firman and was in the 1930s, a popular singer in dance bands like the Lew Stone and Maurice Winnick. He also had his own bands. In 1939, he joined as a presenter and in speaking roles for the BBC, first in the comedy series It's That Man Again ( ITMA ) with Tommy Handley, which ran until 1949. He also appeared in the BBC radio comedy series Much binding on in the Marsh, which ran from 1944 to 1954 (of 1950/51 at Radio Luxembourg ) and a rural RAF airfield had the subject, later turned into a country club, and still later laid in a newspaper office. He had other regular programs, such as a request concert program ( Housewives Choice ). In 1967 he moved to BBC 2, where he hosted until the end of the 1970s.
